Kokum Butter, Garcinia indica, also known as Wild Mangosteen, comes from the seeds of the fruit-bearing Kokum tree. This evergreen tree is indigenous to South India where it grows in tropical rain forests. With a dense canopy of leaves, Kokum trees grow up to 50 feet tall and produce berry-like fruits with seeds from which Kokum butter is produced. Once a tree is at least 7 years old its fallen fruits are collected, the seeds are separated and dried then ground, and finally pressed to release their oils.
